Internship benefits go both ways at P&A Accountants & Business Advisers

The relationship between Navitas Professional and P&A Accountants & Business Advisers started in June 2017. Since then, a number of our students have interned at the boutique accounting practice based in Adelaide. They specialise in providing financial services to individuals and to small and large companies.
Angie Mak began her Accounting Professional Year in May 2017. After completing the 32-week course, she started her internship at P&A Accountants.
Accountant Ming Tan was involved with Angie’s supervision at the firm during her 12-week placement. Ming sees mutual advantage for all parties in the Professional Year Program that goes beyond the company’s boost to productive capacity.
“I believe the best thing about the program is the shared experience,” he said. “P&A staff contribute their professional expertise to the student, while the Navitas interns are refreshing and provide our company with a boost of youthful endeavour.”
Another benefit for this firm, in hosting interns, is the opportunities created for its existing staff to broaden their skills and to be mentors.
“Hosting Navitas interns is a chance for our employees to extend their human resource function and build on their professional skill sets,” said Ming. “I’m a believer in the ‘see one, do one, teach one’ business model. Navitas graduates form a junior layer to our practice and provide an opportunity for P&A’s intermediaries to supervise.”
From his experience hosting interns, Ming knows that Navitas graduates are unsure about what to expect when they arrive on their first day at work.
“The 12-week placement provides good insight as to what is required of the students professionally. I believe students leave P&A’s placement definitely more confident and work-ready,” he said.
