Navitas Professional Internship Program

Program participants are prepared with four work-readiness modules before becoming immersed in a host organisation alongside Australian professionals. The internship length can be tailored to individual needs, however the recommended duration is 12 weeks for an effective workplace experience.

Navitas Professional and your host organisation will create a training plan and allocate a mentor so you, the participant, will get the most out of your internship and Australian experience. About the Navitas Professional Internship Program:

  • The internship placement is part of the Workplace Effectiveness Program
  • Flexible program duration: the normal length for an internship is 12 weeks, but this can be tailored to meet individual training needs (minimum 8 weeks)

Your program can be tailored so that you can gain academic credit if your university agrees.

When can I start my internship?

Navitas Professional requires candidates to submit their application three months before intended commencement. This enables us to assess your eligibility for the program, confirm a suitable placement and develop a training plan with the host organisation.

  • experience in job search techniques including LinkedIn profiles, resume and cover letter examples enhancing the conversion of your job application to interview.
  • an understanding of the interview process including the types of questions to expect and how to frame answers according to individual experiences.
  • realistic expectations relating to employment in the Australian workplace.
  • an understanding of acceptable behaviour and practice in the Australian workplace relating to relevant Work Health & Safety (WHS) frameworks, workplace diversity, workplace codes of conduct, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and discrimination.
  • the ability to self-manage their daily work activities in a team environment. 
  • a solution-focus to workplace problems.
  • an awareness of how to give and receive professional constructive feedback.
  • an understanding of how to maximise the internship experience.

Online module 1: Australian Workplace Culture - Succeeding in the Australian workplace by understanding culture, management and initiative
Online module 2: Communication, Teamwork and Diversity - Succeeding in the Australian workplace through communication, teamwork and diversity
Online module 3: Build your Digital Brand - Express your personal brand with your portfolio

Upon completion of the online modules you will be eligible to undertake an internship placement relevant to your field of study.

Throughout the program, a dedicated Internship Placement Coordinator will meet with you to discuss and assess your career goals, coach and help you prepare for your interview/s and find a suitable placement.

**Where appropriate, workshop content embeds performance criteria elements of the national Unit of Competency: BSBWOR404 - Develop work priorities in preparation for the vocational placement component of this program^.

The work experience placement component of this course includes summative assessment according to performance and knowledge assessment criteria specified in BSBWOR404 Develop work priorities^. 

This is integrated throughout our authentic internship selection process that will build your confidence in key job seeking stages and experience real world workplace selection process. Once your placement is successful, an agreed personalised internship training plan, with your host company, will be developed and allocated supervisors will mentor and support you throughout your placement.

A mid-internship assessment and post-internship review will be conducted; ensuring participants receive valuable feedback on their progress and workplace skill development.
Upon successful conclusion of the program students will receive a Certificate of Completion and ongoing career support.

Entry requirements

Local and international graduates are qualified to participate in the Professional Internship Program, if they satisfy the following requirements:

Local and international graduates are qualified to participate in the Professional Internship Program, if they satisfy the following requirements:

  • have recently completed* or currently be enrolled in and have completed at least one year course of study related to your placement field and/or maintained professional currency
  • be an Australian citizen or hold a suitable visa
  • be a native English speaker or demonstrate English language proficiency to a minimum PTE-A score of 50, IELTS band score 6.0 or equivalent
